‘Introduction to Relief Printmaking’

In this one-day workshop, participants will be introduced to the basic principles of relief printing using both lino and wood blocks. Relief prints are created by cutting into the block using a gouge, knife or ‘v’ tool. The block is inked up using a roller and is then printed to create an image on paper. With this technique, the material that is removed does not print, making it a negative mark-making technique. Participants will be guided through the process from cutting to printing, including registration and at least 2 separate prints will be created over the course of the day. No experience is necessary and all specialist materials provided. Just bring along a few ideas and a lot of enthusiasm!

•All workshops are designed to be accessible for complete beginners as well as experienced artists and students.

•All the techniques shown are ones that students can continue to use at home after the workshops have ended.

•All specialist materials are provided but we would recommend that students bring along the following:
Apron
Gloves
Pencils
Ruler
Craft Knife
Ideas to use for prints (photos / sketches / cuttings etc)
Any other materials / pens / sponges etc to use
