Are you a sport and play fanatic? Do you have great den building skills or know the off side rule? Do you enjoy working with children and young people? We are searching for an enthusiastic, dynamic, highly motivated individual with a real passion for working with children and young people to join a stimulating new project.
Elmbridge Borough Council has launched a new and exciting Play Ranger project funded by the Big Lottery. This is an ideal opportunity for those who recognise the value of play to the development of the children and their communities. The workers will combine their knowledge of play values and community development out reach work, and will be advocates for children’s rights to play.
We are looking to appoint an individual to work as part of a team of two to deliver the project. The post holder will be responsible for the development and delivery of play opportunities in parks, open spaces and woodland all year round. Play Rangers enable and encourage children to play freely outdoors.
Play sessions will be delivered outside schools hours all year round. We are looking for a candidate that can work 19 hours per week. Working hours will vary throughout the year and will include some weekend work. Usual working hours are 3.00 pm till 6.30 pm with additional office time.
To succeed you will need to have an interest in sports, play or youth work and be enthusiastic about working with children. You will need to show you have extensive experience of working with children and young people and experience in project planning and organisation. Good self-management, the ability to manage your own workload and to be highly innovative and creative in the delivery of services would be essential.
A Playwork / Youth Work qualification (NVQ level 2) or equivalent is required, or willingness to study outside of work hours. You should be able to work effectively in a small team and it is crucial you are willing to work in all weathers, come rain, shine or snow! A driving licence is necessary in order to drive our Play Van.
