This course takes place over one day. It covers marine VHF operation, DSC and Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) procedures using Digital Selective Calling. This course uses Simrad RD68, Icom IC M421 and Standard Horizon training radios to enable practical hands on experience.

Course content: GMDSS, Mayday, Pan-Pan, Medical assistance calls, DSC Alerts, EPIRBS, SARTS, NAVTEX, Licensing requirements, Voice and Digital Calls

Ability after course: Upon the successful completion of the course the student should have an understanding of radio rules and regulations and be competent to operate a marine VHF/DSC radio.

Venue: Worplesdon Memorial Hall, Perry Hill, Worplesdon, Guildford, Surrey GU3 3RF.

Cost: £100 plus RYA certificate fee of £25.

Students are required to provide a passport sized photograph for the certificate. Written material will be sent that should be studied in preparation for the course.
