Rural Dogz is about teaching your dog to listen to you when off the lead and putting you back in control. Perhaps you haven't dared let your dog off the lead yet, or perhaps you already do and your dog chooses when to listen to you.

It is your responsibility as a dog owner to ensure that you have 100% control of your dog when he is off the lead regardless of distraction. It may be interesting for you to know that you could be charged under the Dangerous Dogs Act if your dog is deemed dangerously out of control in a public place.
Section 3 of the act applies to all dogs that are dangerously out of control in a public place (it does not apply to dogs in their own garden who jump up at visitors). If a dog acts in a way in which someone fears they will be attacked, then an offence is committed. The fines are up to £5000 and/or 6 months in prison and the Courts may order the dog to be destroyed.

This can be as simple as your dog running up to a stranger or running up to a dog on lead. Any of these can frighten someone and your dog can be liable under this act.

Gaining proper control of your dog off the lead is a must and will in turn enhance your own dogs life by allowing him to express natural behaviours.

So how do you get control? Our Rural Dogz course runs as an intensive 3 week course on a Saturday 11.30am-1.30pm at our venue in Bramley, Guildford. The course is for all dogs from fully vaccinated with no upper age limit.

Ideal if your dog

Chooses when to listen to you
Runs off to greet other dogs
Runs off to greet people
Chases cyclists, joggers or rabbits
Gets a 'red mist' over their eyes before shooting off into the distance
Prefers to play with other dogs rather than you
Runs dangerously towards traffic
Comes back when he feels like it

The course will teach your dog to

Come when called away from people
Come when called away from other dogs
A chasing recall designed for when your dog is chasing cyclists, rabbits, joggers etc
Stop in an emergency, i.e. running towards a main road
Impulse control - stay when dogs or horses are running past

We don't use any food in our recall group because at Adolescent Dogs we think your dog should WANT to come to you for you, not because you have food in your hand. When training with food, you will find your dog will only return if he is hungry enough! Throughout the duration of the course we will be teaching you the skills required to create that desire in your dog using you, the owner as a reward. We start all the training in a secure indoor riding school so that in the initial stages of training your dog can't get it wrong. When we feel the group is ready we will take the training outdoors and get the recall working where it needs to work with distractions!

The Rural Dogz course runs as a 3 week course on:

Saturday in Bramley, Guildford 11.30am-1.30pm

Next course Saturday 28th June.

Our Rural Dogz course carries a lifetime guarantee for you and your companion. This means that if after 3 weeks your dog still has a poor recall, we will offer you additional sessions free of charge until the problem is solved.
