Temporary Works Design Engineer

Our client is a leading multi-disciplinary contractor. Their building and civil engineering capability provides a comprehensive service for construction and rail clients.
The job is to provide a support service to Tenders and Contracts for temporary works solutions, including technical support and design and the protection of Corporate interests in respect of efficient working and design responsibility.
The successful engineer would be working under the Pre-contracts Director, reporting to the Chief Engineer, the role requires liaison with and provide support to contract management staff and tender teams.
Main Duties:
Prepare, when required, contractors proposals for Temporary Works that comply with Company procedures and client requirements to maximise likelihood of selection at Tender stage.
Supporting the Design and Build tenders and contracts in the development and delivery of Permanent Works design solutions.
Ensure all Temporary Works designs include a design risk assessment in accordance with obligations under Construction (Design and Management) (CDM) Regulations, and are to current standards, checked by correct procedure and contract teams fully briefed.
Provide design information service to estimators for tenders and project staff for contracts and in accordance with Company procedures and Client Approval requirements
Co-ordinate external designers and sub-contractors with design responsibility to comply with programmes, client and Company requirements.
Assist contract staff with additional support as may be required. (E.g., Quality issues, Technical Design information for Health & Safety files.
Establish and maintain effective communications with clients to comply with agreed schedules and to keep them informed of progress in order to maintain their support in the approval of proposals, such as Form C for Network Rail and TW-CDS for London Underground.
Develop own skills to fulfil current and forecast requirements.
Qualifications:
Degree level, ideally Incorporated/Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer.
Ability to gain track safety certificates for NR and LU and comply with Health and D&A requirements.
CAD and IT literate.
Able to communicate effectively with designers and project teams.
Full driving License.
Experience:
Design of temporary works for construction sites, ideally on the Rail Infrastructure.
Practical and design experience including examples such as: excavation support, sheet piling, support of existing structures, falsework, formwork, crane mats, lifting equipment and demolition.
Applications and properties of a wide range of materials and plant available.
