No two dogs or households are the same, therefore we offer private consultations suited to your own dogs behaviour, history and environment. We will investigate any behavioural problems with you and explain your dogs basic needs and how best to meet them in your own situation. For the owner, we can help you develop your handling and communication skills and explain how your dog learns and what the triggers are for what you perceive to be bad behaviour
What happens during a behaviour consultation?
The initial consultation usually lasts between 1 and 2 hours, and takes place in your own home - the following information will be discussed:
Your pet's routine and diet
Your pet's history
Your pet's medical history
The problem behaviour(s) - when, where and how often they occur
What you have done to try to change your pet's behaviour
By observing your pet and its behaviour it will be possible to
Gain a sense of your pet's temperament
Assess how your pet interacts with you and your family
Assess how your pet behaves in different situations
During the consultation we will discuss
How and why the problem behaviour(s) developed
The motivation behind the behaviour
How to modify the behaviour
How to maintain appropriate behaviour patterns
A behaviour modification plan will then be suggested and agreed upon during the consultation. You will be shown how to use simple, reward based methods to change your pet's behaviour
What happens after the consultation?
A follow-up visit 2-4 weeks after the initial visit is always recommended to assess progress. Dependent on the problem(s) you are experiencing some or all of the following may also be suggested
Regular one-to-one sessions for basic training
Socialisation sessions
Controlled introductions to other animals, people, places, sounds etc.
Regular telephone calls to assess progress
Joining a regular training class
Every pet and owner/family are treated as individuals and any behaviour modification plan suggested will be tailored to suit your individual requirements. At no time will you be required to do anything with which you are uncomfortable or unable to do.
It is impossible to say how long it takes to solve a problem as this depends on many factors, length of time the pet has had the problem, severity of the problem, type of problem, amount of time available to dedicate to changing behaviour etc. However no problem can be solved without a lot of time, patience and effort being put in by the owner/family… unfortunately I don't have a magic wand!
How much does a behaviour consultation cost?
A one off payment of £150 which acts as a lifetime guarantee for your dog. We will provide you with as many sessions as required to solve or help you manage the problem you are having. This includes free email and telephone advice throughout.
If we feel any additional obedience training would be beneficial, this is charged at normal rate, i.e. classes, walking groups etc.
If you feel you need a behaviour consultaion or advice about your dogs behaviour, please fill in the behaviour enquiry form at the web address below and we will be in touch as soon as possible.
